The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) raided two voter approved medical dispensaries in Los Angeles today. These are the first federal raids on dispensaries in California since 2012.
The raids comes on the heels of disturbing quotes from top officials at the Department of Justice. In one quote, the Deputy Attorney General warned that cannabis users could be the target of federal prosecution.
Update: October 24 @ 4pm
One day later and we're no closer to getting to the bottom of yesterday's raids according to a new Huffington Post report. The Department of Justice took responsible for the raids, but refused to say why, claiming the warrant was sealed in court.
They go on to quote a manager of one of the dispensaries:
"We are completely in the dark as to why this happened. We have been around for close to 10 years in Los Angeles and are completely 100 percent state-compliant and we pay our taxes."
The Huffington Post spoke to patients of one of the dispensaries who said it's is an "'honest business' that treated patients with respect and kindness."
